Psychologists, Sociologists, And Other Scholars Have Studied
Psychologists, sociologists, and other scholars have studied the process of developing and forming an individual identity in-depth. The use of psychosocial theories, defined as, ââ¬Å"unified, systematic casual explanation of a diverse range of social phenomenaâ⬠, assist in providing organized guidance in better understanding identity development (Patton, Renn, Guido, Quaye, 2016, pg. 5). Despite both of my siblings attending the University of Illinois for undergraduate and law school, I chose to not apply there. Additionally, I chose to not apply to any colleges in the state of Illinois. For me, this marked my transition of becoming an adult and becoming my own person. The Seven Vectors of Identity Development, created by Arthur Chickering in 1969, shares, ââ¬Å"an overview of the developmental issues faced by college students and identified environmental conditions that influence developmentâ⬠(Patton, et al., pg. 296). The theory is unique to each individual and there is not a prescribed time spent in each vector, nor is movement through each vector in a specific order. Additionally, the vectors are not isolated from each other and are not necessarily only completed once. For the purpose of this paper, I will focus on vector two, managing emotions. Managing emotions is described as when, ââ¬Å"students develop the ability to recognize and accept emotions, as well as to appropriately express and control themâ⬠(Patton et al., pg. 296). When I look at who I was as a first-year student versus who I am now, the role that this vector played is one of the most prominent differences. The Millennial Generation Carrie Diaries - 2369 Words
For Thanksgiving, my roommate invited me to spend the holiday with her at her uncleââ¬â¢s house back in New York City. They welcomed me into their home when I arrived. Then my roommate and I passed the time downstairs before dinner.I donââ¬â¢t remember the conversation, but it led us to watch a show called The Carrie Diaries.. Saya told me how itââ¬â¢s the perfect show for me to watch. The Carrie Diaries features one of the most iconic characters of the millennial generation: a young small town girl who learns to think for herself and turns into a sharp and insightful writer. Carrie would start each episode by saying: ââ¬Å" Before there was Sex, before there was The City, there was just me. Carrie. Carrie Bradshaw. From Castleburry, Connecticut.â⬠.She was just a small town girl who moved to New York, where she got a job with interview Magazine. As she experiences important moments in her life -ââ¬Å"sex and the cityâ⬠is the way she terms them- she turns into a thoughtful and skilled writer. I related to her because I too have had these significant moments in my life that made me evolve and change into the person that I am right now. I too have memories and ââ¬Å" adventuresâ⬠of some kind that shaped the way my mind functions, and the way I see the world and think about whatââ¬â¢s currently happening in it. I guess the first major life changing moment was leaving Egypt after my parents got divorced. I donââ¬â¢t exactly remember what happened between my parents but i know it didnââ¬â¢t end well. College Essay For American University free essay sample
In the Philosophy of Andy Warhol he states, ââ¬Å"They always say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.â⬠Mr.Warholââ¬â¢s words are a reminder to me of my similar entelechy. I often speculate what I would scribe if I wrote a ââ¬Å"Philosophy of Brittany Evans.â⬠I know I would begin with how I have changed. The past 10 months have been the most influential months of my life. As a junior project, I left my comfortable upper middle-class home in Illinois and ventured into the depths of the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. My Native American grandmother welcomed me to the reservation with open arms and a few words of wisdom. There I attended a local impoverished school and I settled in for an adventure. I experienced so much diversity and adversity when I arrived, fighting each day to survive in a new social environment. I discovered so much about myself including; patience, drive, maturity, passion, and a new found sense of hope. We will write a custom essay sample on College Essay For American University or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Not only did I have to battle racism and other social strife but I was also challenged by the environment. The water ran black, the soil was radioactive, and most of the wildlife was potentially deadly. This experience exposed me to a new way of life engulfed in poverty and surrounded by indifference. Not only the indifference of the community but also the indifference of our government. I discovered that I alone can create change. My tribe has a tradition of wearing a pouch around our neck, the inside holds soil from the place you feel most at home. Currently, mine holds red clay from the reservation; I am determined to keep my adventures, changes, and lessons alive. At the end of the school year I returned to the affluent world I knew as a different soul. Over the summer I chose to be a residential camp counselor at an Easter Seals camp for people with special needs instead of a normal, mundane teen summer job. It was the most physically and mentally draining endeavor I have ever experienced, yet it was also one of the most rewarding. I know that I had a minute part in making over 850 campers more independent. As the new school year began I felt an overwhelming need to put what I had learned into action. Our English Department underwent a renovation. As a teacherââ¬â¢s assistant, I helped clean out all unwanted books and magazines. Instead of recycling hundred of unused books I convinced the department that the books could serve a higher purpose in Arizona. This simple act snowballed into an all out book-drive benefiting the school in Arizona. We currently have several boxes of books waiting to be shipped. These books will change the entire communityââ¬â¢s educational system and provide resources for teachers and students alike. If I wrote a ââ¬Å"Philosophy of Abella Evansâ⬠it would hold the lessons I learned and changes that have happened over the past 10 months. It would hold passages and quotes on maturity, patience, beauty, appreciation, individuality, determination, and above all passion. I trust that it is through passion, ideas, and action that all change and service can occur.

Braham Stokers Dracula Draculas Essay Free Essay on Dracula In the novel Dracula there are many qualities that are necessary for success. Firstly determination is a key factor to succeeding; secondly revenge is a factor in succeeding; furthermore fearlessness plays a big role when they go to kill Lucy; lastly intelligence is needed to make all the plans. When Jonathan Harker get captured by Dracula he is afraid, but he is also determined to get free. I can not say in this room much longer for I shall die, he said. A small crack of light appeared through the stones. I pushed the stone with all my might but it only move, I found a carving utensil which I used to make the hole bigger said Jonathon. The hole got bigger and bigger then the stone just fell out. When Jonathan Harker and the rest of the people go to hunt Dracula they are determined to kill him because they do not want Dracula to kill anyone else. In order to kill Dracula they must plunge a stake through its heart, cut off its head, and stuff its mouth with garlic. They use silver knives to kill him just as the sun sets. Get him before he flees said Jonathan, he must not get away. Arthur proceeds with the stake cautiously. I got him yelled Arthur. Abraham shoves a clove of garlic in the Counts mouth. get him before he tries to get away. Jonathan and Quincey, use silver knives to cut off his head. We have finally done it we killed Dracula said Quincey. Jonathon was determined to escape. Arthur, Abraham, Jonathan, and Quincey are determined to kill Dracula. In order to get out of the Counts castle Jonathan thinks of three things survival, escaping and kill the Count for trapping him in the castle. I cant die I have to get out, I have to end his rain of terror, he can`t get away with what he did to me said Jonathan. This shows that Jonathan Harker wanted to kill Dracula through revenge, but he also killed him so Dracula would not kill anyone else. When Van Helsing, Holmwood, Seward, and Quincey Morris go to kill Lucy they must be fearless of the un-dead. Van Helsing leads Holmwood, Seward, and Quincey Morris go on there search to kill Lucy. We have to go kill her there is no other way said Van Helsing Therefore they must be fearless to go and kill vampire. Jonathan Harker was an intelligent man so was Arthur, Abraham, and Quincey. If they were not intelligent they would not have come up with plans to kill Dracula, and Jonathan would not have escaped from his castle. Therefore if these men were not smart Jonathan would not have escaped and the rest of the story would not have happened . In conclusion there are many qualities that are necessary for success such as, determination, revenge, and intelligence if the qualities did not exist the story would not have gone anywhere.
